Denise approaches each client from an integrated perspective and utilizes mindfulness based practices, which support emotional growth, optimal wellness, and wholeness. Using EMDR, DBT, and CBT, she helps clients experiencing mood disturbances and affect dysregulation. Her approach to issues related to substance use embraces a movement away from the narrow confines of ‘recovery’ to an expansive vision of ongoing self-discovery. With many clients Denise uses mindfulness practices including breath-work to activate the parasympathetic nervous system, creative visualization, and internal resourcing. Providing skills and tools to navigate life’s challenges is an important piece of the therapeutic puzzle.
Denise has worked in residential and outpatient treatment centers focused on therapeutic support for individuals overcoming substance use related issues. She also worked in the criminal justice system as a clinician in the JBBS (Jail-based Behavioral Health Services) program to provide education and therapeutic support for inmates in the Jefferson County jail.
In addition to her private practice, Denise is an independent contractor with the Routt County Alcohol Council and provides court-ordered groups including DUI education and therapy for adults and Minor in Possession/Consumption education for individuals between 14 and 21 years of age.
Denise is a 4th generation Colorado native and has scaled most of the 14ers since she began hiking as an adolescent. She has also climbed mountains around the world including Kilimanjaro in Tanzania and Mt. Cook in New Zealand. She is an enthusiastic adventure traveler and seeks opportunities to get off the beaten tourist track. In addition to being an avid hiker Denise is a mountain biker, snow-shoer, white water rafter, stand up paddle boarder, and self-proclaimed “gym rat.” Having inner peace, physical health, and mindful presence supports her active lifestyle and makes possible a nature-based spirituality that is necessary for balance, meaning, and purpose in her life.
